Supporting People with Dementia Day 1, 2, 3 & 4
Dementia can make day-to-day life more challenging. Short-term memory loss, disorientation and confusion are amongst a number of symptoms that can make day-to-day life difficult and sometimes frightening for the individual and those carers closest to them. Current government policy asserts that people with dementia who want to remain in their own homes should be supported, along with their families, to do so for as long as possible. Imaginative, flexible person-centred services are required to enable individuals with dementia to remain living at home longer. In particular staff need to be trained to work with people with dementia, and their carers, in a person-centred way that promotes well-being, independence and choices.

Even after a relatively mild stroke individuals may feel tired, lacking in confidence about moving about, unsteady, fearful and anxious. Those people who have more severe strokes may experience significant co-ordination problems, paralysis, sensory problems, fears about their body image, relationships and their own abilities to cope as independently as they used to.
Following a stroke, both the individual and those closest to them are likely to need different types of support. Some people will need assistance to gain or regain day to day living skills that have been temporarily lost, others might need to learn new skills and adapt to more long term disabilities. Some might need and want to talk to others about their experiences, fears and hopes.
The process of enabling is an important aspect of a Care Practitioners and Team Leaders role because recovery tends to be more rapid in the first weeks after a stroke.

Changing Cultures in Dementia Care
High quality dementia care requires training leadership by example and changes in culture. Over the past decade, considerable progress has been made within the field of dementia care.

This course has been designed for Managers, Team Leaders, who are directly supporting care practitioners in care settings and the community who wish to, understand more about issues within dementia care how to change cultures and improve quality of care.
